The General Directorate of State-Owned Companies of Afghanistan is an important governmental institution responsible for overseeing, managing, and developing state-owned enterprises in the country. It was established by decree of the Amir al-Mu’minin (may Allah protect him), with the mission of reviving state companies that were damaged during past wars.
Several important state companies and projects operate under this directorate, creating employment opportunities and contributing to the strengthening of the national economy.
Establishment of the Free Printing Press and publication of the first newspaper "Shams al-Nahar" during the reign of Emir Sher Ali Khan.
Renamed to "Dar al-Saltanat Printing Press" during Emir Abdul Rahman Khan’s era, with expansion of printing and publishing activities.
Official establishment of the directorate to oversee the development of state industrial and commercial enterprises.
Modernization of the mission, introduction of corporate governance reforms, and strategic oversight.
Supervision of more than 50 state-owned companies across various sectors, with over 100,000 employees and a significant contribution to the national GDP.
